Riverside LL Update - 7 April 2014

White Sox Outing - Tuesday, 17 June

Please join us for the annual Riverside Little League Day at the White Sox.  More information will be sent out soon.

2014 Season Update

On behalf of the Little League Board, I would like to welcome you to the 2014 Little League Season.  Your 2014 Riverside Little League Board consists of: Michael Gentile, Mike Murphy, Jim Sloan, Rick Collins, Mike Manchen, Chris Pacourek, Jim LaMantia, Deanna Marrs, Mike Laube, Paige Fumo Fox, Tom Dockendorf, Carol Barlow and Craig Chapulis.  All of us are accessible for questions that you may have.
I would like to start by giving a giant thank you to the Rec Board and Department for their ongoing partnership with Riverside Little League.  As many of you are already aware, based on Little League’s suggestions Rec was able to improve the playing conditions at Big Ballpark last summer.  The new and improved fencing both on the playing field and surrounding the dugouts was needed.
As we progress into the next few seasons, we expect to see further improvements to the fields.  Some of our improvement goals include: shading for the dugouts at Big Ballpark and Harrington, new larger dugouts and fencing at Indian Gardens, and new high tech batters boxes and pitchers mounds that will drain better than the current fields.  You will be seeing fundraisers later in the year to help pay for these improvements.  We hope everybody will be able to participate.  Please let us know if your employer has a donation-matching program.
Last year Little League had a significant operating loss.  In order to keep up with the improvements made last year (discounted preseason training, indoor practice times, better uniforms, new equipment and professional umpires) as well as further improvements, we are implementing a new fee schedule and new divisions in Little League.  Little League International has also made changes that may benefit Riverside Little League.  As of this year, a child may play in Riverside Little League if they live within the borders of Riverside or they attend school in Riverside.  For those of you who are at Ames, Hauser, St. Mary’s and even RB, please spread the word about this rule change.  This could have a significant effect on our registration.
If you or your employer is interested in sponsoring a team please contact Mike Laube or respond to this email.

You can look for the following changes for the upcoming season:
T-Ball – 5-year-old boys and girls $100 - "games" will consist of a 45 minute 2 team practice followed by a 3 inning game. Use the Baseball Age Chart.
Pee Wee Baseball - 6-year-old boys and girls $125 - similar to T-Ball with the exception of the introduction of a pitching machine.  Kids who are unable to hit from the machine will be allowed to use a tee to bat.
Use the Baseball Age Chart.
Jr. Minors Baseball and Softball - 7 & 8 year olds $140- this will now be a full time "no walk" kid and coach pitch league.
Minors Baseball and Softball - 9 & 10 year olds $155- this is a full time kid pitch league with modified rules.
Majors Baseball and Softball - 11 & 12 year olds $175 - we will be playing full Little League Baseball and Softball rules using professional umpires.
Juniors Baseball & Softball - 13 & 14 year olds $175 – we will be playing full baseball and softball rules using professional umpires.
Registration opens Friiday, 6 December and goes through Saturday, 18 Janaury. Just like last year, registration will be on-line only at Teams will be assigned in early February, which will allow our uniform vendors extra time to complete our orders before the start of the season.

If you wish you can make a tax exempt donation to Riverside Little League here.

Thank you for your participation and support!

Mike Gentile,
