Guidelines for Play During Phase 3

Riverside Little League
Return to Play Guidelines for June 2020

With the State of Illinois (“Illinois”) moving into Phase 3 of the Restore Illinois Plan, youth sports are allowed to resume activities on a limited basis. These activities are subject to the reopening guidelines established by Illinois and the Village of Riverside (“Village”). Riverside Little League (“RLL”) is committed to following these guidelines as we return to play in June. Participation in Riverside Little League is subject to these Guidelines until further notice.

Illinois and Riverside have established these guidelines to enable youth sports, such as RLL baseball and softball, to safely resume activities. However, there are obvious and inherent risks with return to play of exposure to the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) and/or any mutation or variation thereof, and, indeed, any communicable disease, infection and/or virus, even if all the guidelines are followed.

RLL is neither expert in nor otherwise experienced in assessing the spread of or risks associated with communicable diseases and cannot and does not take on such role by virtue of presenting certain activities as available to the community.  RLL is also not equipped to educate the community on such risks and has, for itself, deferred to the expertise and authority of Illinois and the Village.

Accordingly, RLL considers that before participating in any RLL associated activities each participant and their guardians must decide for themselves if they are willing to accept the risks of exposure, directly or indirectly, arising out of, contributed to, or otherwise resulting from any RLL activities in which they might participate, to any and all communicable diseases, infections, or viruses, including but not limited to, the virus “severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2)”, which is responsible for Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) and/or any mutation or variation or outbreak thereof.

By participating in RLL-associated activities, you acknowledge and accept these risks and confirm that you agree to the terms and conditions set forth at the time you registered for the 2020 season.

For the month of June and as long as Illinois remains in Phase 3 of the Restore Illinois Plan and in accordance with State and Village of Riverside Parks and Recreation published guidelines, RLL activities will consist of the following:
  • There will be no competitive games, only drills/practices/lessons that do not involve direct physical contact between participants.
All participants will maintain 6-foot physical distance at all times.
  • If participants and coaches are unable to maintain 6-foot physical distancing while outdoors or if the activities are conducted indoors, participants and coaches must wear a cloth face covering, except for individuals with medical conditions that prevent them from wearing a facial covering. RLL reserves the right to request a doctor’s note exempting an individual from wearing a face covering.
  • No one should participate if they have any COVID-19 symptoms.
  • All participants will wash hands with soap and water or use hand sanitizer regularly, especially before and after participating. RLL will provide hand sanitizer in each team’s equipment bag.
  • All participants will use their own equipment. Sharing of bats, gloves, helmets and other equipment is not allowed. RLL issued catcher’s gear should only be used by one player per practice and the manager / coach will sanitize the mask after each practice.
  • Baseballs will be sanitized after each practice. Bleach wipes or similar CDC/EPA-approved disinfectants will be used.
  • Team/group size will be limited to 10 participants or fewer per every one supervising adult.
  • Teams/groups will be static, with no mixing of adults or children.
  • Spectators are not permitted, and parents should remain in vehicles during designated pick-up/drop-off times.
  • No team/group snacks or sharing of food or beverages. No chewing gum, seeds, or spitting allowed. All participants will use their own water bottles and keep them 6 feet away from other participant’s personal belongings.
  • No handshakes, high-fives, etc.
  • Dugouts are strictly off-limits. All players will put their personal belongings on the outside of the backstop fence six feet from any other individual’s personal belongings.
  • The team manager and coaches are required to monitor these guidelines at all times.
When Illinois moves into Phase 4 of the Restore Illinois Plan, RLL will update these guidelines accordingly.
